Turbulence Liquid-Fueled Sounding Rocket

Overview

Turbulence was a student-led liquid-fueled sounding rocket developed in a demanding multidisciplinary environment. Projects like this require much more than isolated CAD work. They demand coordination between structures, propulsion, manufacturing, testing, documentation, and schedule pressure.

I worked on the design and development of the vehicle with particular focus on the feed system and structural aspects of the rocket. The work involved turning concepts into manufacturable hardware and validating design decisions against real constraints.

What I Worked On

  • Led design work on the liquid propulsion feed system and related structural components.
  • Modeled parts and assemblies in SolidWorks.
  • Performed structural validation work in ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Collaborated with a broader engineering team to keep the project aligned on performance, timing, and budget.

What I Learned

This project strengthened my ability to work on safety-critical, tightly coupled systems where a small design decision can affect the entire vehicle. It also reinforced the importance of documentation, iteration, and communication across disciplines.

That mindset translates well to robotics and autonomous systems, where reliability depends on understanding the full system rather than optimizing one part in isolation.
